Wyoming Is Booming

Cheyenne is the capital and largest city in Wyoming – but “large” in Wyoming, the least populated state in the U.S., is a mere 65,000 residents. That represents more than 18% growth since 2000 – but city officials recognized the need to expand in a way that allowed current and new residents to continue to call Cheyenne home. (Check out our recent article about PlanCheyenne.)

And it’s not just the Cheyenne population that has grown since 2000. Median house value has more than doubled and now exceed $200,000. Median household income was less than $40,000 in 2000 and exceeds $60,000 today, and per capita income has increased more than 50%. These increases are repeated throughout the state.

As further proof of Wyoming’s booming economy, tax revenue in 2017 increased 18.8% vs. 2016, according to the Wyoming Business Report. Almost 5,000 jobs were added in the past year, more than 40% in the mining industry and more than 20% in business and professional services. The oil & gas sector also saw significant growth, with an increase of 12 rigs bringing the state total to 30.

All of this growth is good news for the people of South East Wyoming, Laramie County, and the city of Cheyenne. With smart expansion, a crime rate well below the national average, and plenty of space for exciting (or relaxing!) outdoor activities for people of all ages, Laramie County communities are a great choice for singles, couples, seniors, and families.
